Because Nissan gave me a generous buy-back on my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I used the money (some of it) to buy a used '02 Xterra SE SC. Yeah, it has one of those little belt driven whirley boxes bolted to the top of the engine. I've only had it a day and I like it. Bummer though, it's missing the first aid kit.

Almost bought an Xterra myself after selling my Pathfinder. (Un?)fortunately, my Pathfinder was fixable through the recall, so no payout for me. lol. Only thing I didn't like about the Xterra when I was looking at them was that the interior seemed rather down-market compared to the R51. Considering the amount of time I spend in my cars, that was sadly a deal breaker.

Congrats, though! Now go do some off-roading!

Cool truck.

Just wondering, do these have ifs or a solid axle? I know that they are body on frame.

I knew they made a supercharged Frontier but I didn't know they made the Xterra supercharged too

Can you still do an oil change from the passenger wheel well?

I agree the Pathfinder has a nicer interior. Even my R50 had a nicer interior than the Xterra. The only two options mine doesn't have is leather and side steps. So it's fairly well equipped.

The Xterra and Frontier came with an optional Supercharged 3.3L (2001-2003) known as the VG33ER in Nissan land. According to Nissan the supercharged version of the 3.3L had all different internals but, I'm not sure about that. It does run on 91 Octane.

The SC Xterras and Frontiers aren't exactly common.

I'll find out tomorrow when I give it a service. My Pathfinder had enough ground clearance that I just crawled under it to change the oil. No jack or ramps.

Sold my '02 SE 4x4 just last August. It was a great little SUV but got terrible gas mileage, just terrible. Maintenance was pretty easy, the aforementioned oil change only requires you to drop the skid plate and the filter etc. is all right there.

The only quirks she had were a headliner that was falling down from the front which I had a local hot-rod place refurbish, the fan control circuit went out which was pretty easy to replace, and the knock sensor died so I replaced that when I did the timing belt/water pump/accessories belts and pulleys maintenance.

P.S. That knock sensor.......... One of the worst automotive repair jobs I've ever had to be part of, pray yours has already been replaced and if it hasn't just do the knock sensor relocation and be done with it.

Funny you should mention that, on my Pathfinder I had to do the relocation. Used the externally mounted sensor from a Maxima. It really is one of the worst designs in the automotive world.

As for the gas mileage, I'm expecting it to be on track with my R50 Pathy. The Xterra is geared better than the Pathy, so it's better suited to the highway driving I do.

sweet truck!

my mom bought one of these after a succession of pathfinders dating back to 1986. she loved them all. and the sound of the starter motor in that nissan v6 is permanently ingrained into my memory. she's about 5ft0 105 lbs, and i suppose age finally caught up with her, when she bought a lexus rx, around the same time she started qualifying for medicare. ha.

seriously though, sweet truck.
